Grow Your Vocabulary to Grow Your Empathy

"The single biggest problem with communication is the illusion that it has taken place." I have often referred to this quote from George Bernard Shaw when managing teams or facilitating discussions. Leaders must always strive to communicate more effectively. When it comes to expressing or understanding how one feels, one must go well beyond "happy", "sad", "anger", "fear", "surprise", and "disgust" if one hopes to break through the illusion of communication. I find this simple vocabulary wheel quite useful.
